What
is "smash and grab"?
“Smash and grab” is the media term used to describe
the process of a burglar breaking or “smashing”
through a window or glass door in an office home or retail
store, and removing or “grabbing” valuables like
computers, tools, jewelry, confidential business information,
etc., …all within a matter of minutes. Over 70% of all
break-ins occur through glass.

How
does security window film work to help prevent “smash
and grab”?
Security window film forms a molecular bond to the glass.
This bond holds the glass together even after multiple forceful
impacts. Although the glass may be broken or cracked, it remains
adhered to the film and will stay intact inside the frame.
The burglar is hence deterred from entering the premises owing
to the difficulty in entering your home/office.

Can
security window film be penetrated?
Yes it can, as with any form of security system. However,
it does take significant time. Time is the most important
asset and liability that a burglar has to rely on. As most
“smash and grabs” take place in minutes, it is
unlikely that a burglar will waste time in trying to repeatedly
break a window in order to gain entry into a house/office.

Is
security window film bullet proof?
Security window film is not a replacement for bullet-proof
glass or lexans. However, in certain combinations of glass
thickness and film thickness, security film has proven to
stop some low caliber bullets from penetrating, but it is
not designed specifically for this use.

Should
I use security film instead of an alarm?
Motion sensing alarms detect that a burglar is already inside
your home or establishment.
Security film has no detecting capabilities but limits potential
burglars from gaining access to begin with.
Security film is one form of security available to the consumer.
However, since each case of theft is different, it is best
if security film is used in conjunction with a security alarm
for best results.

Does
security film work well with alarms?
Security film when used with certain glass break detector
alarms or shock sensors is optimal. If a potential perpetrator
attempts to break in via the window or glass door area, the
alarm can be tripped, therefore adding an element of shock
to the burglar who has already been detected without having
gained access. Repeated attempts create more noise and take
more time. Since most “smash and grabs” take place
in mere minutes, the resulting time delay and noise factor
is generally sufficient to scare off most would be thieves
in favor of easier targets.

Which
security product should I use?
The best film for the job is the thickest with the most number
of plies or layers. Take into consideration budget constraints,
for it may be better to use a thinner film with an alarm versus
spending your whole budget on security film. Call us @ 1-877-569-TINT

How
much does security film cost?
Security film installation ranges from $6 - $12 per square
foot of glass. The variants in price are dependent on thickness
of film versus difficulty of installation.

How
can security film protect me in natural disasters such as
earthquakes?
During explosions or natural disasters, flying glass is often
the greatest contributor to human injury and/or fatalities.
Security film can prevent these injuries by helping to keep
the glass intact inside its frame.

What
are the specifics of the warranty?
All safety/security window films have a limited manufacturer’s
10 year warranty against change of colour, peeling, bubbling,
rippling, cracking, adhesive failure, delamination and demetallization,
when installed by an authorized professional installer.

Where should
I use security film?
Security film should be used to protect glass windows and
doors and anywhere that valuables are kept in your home, office
or storefront.
